Rochester castle This panel shows the Keep of Rochester castle. Standing on the site of fortifications deserted by the Romans, the present Castle was built c1080, for William the Conqueror, by his Bishop architect Gundulf. Although stormed and re-built several times during in its' history, the Keep is one of todays finest examples of Norman Military building.
