Medway Arts Centre 1. This 19th century lantern light serves the grand staircase in the foyer of the old Chatham Town Hall, now the Medway Arts Centre. The eight panels were black with soot and falling apart. 2. It was necessary to make curved moulds to work upon. Both concave and convex shapes were needed to ensure the panels were re-built to the correct shape. 3. After restoration. 4. These large bronze lanterns date from the 1930s and had numerous broken panes and plain glass replacements. 5. We replaced more than 50 sections of opal glass and cleaned all the surviving original glass. The accumulation of nicotine stain had given the lanterns a decidedly yellow tone! Click on the pictures
