Holy Cross, Hornchurch

“Pathfinder” window, 1933
by MORRIS & CO.

60” × 40” | 152cm × 102cm

Thieves scaled a roof to attack this high window - a late example of the Morris firms’s work.

1. Damaged areas of sub-panels.

2. Restored sub-panels.

3. Head of Christ: assembled fragments and our replacement copy.

A.C. Sewter had not been able to find this window but his excellent book does show two other locations of windows depicting the same subject. Strangely, at both these locations, we discovered that the head of Christ had been removed and was later replacement.

4. Roch, Pembroke - 1913 (from same cartoon).

5. Shanklin, Isle of Wight - 1926 (from same cartoon).
